In many VOCs treatment engineering technical specifications and even some safety standards, VOCs waste gas treatment systems can be equipped with flame arresters or fire dampers to meet safety requirements. Installing fire dampers is a fundamental safety measure in VOCs waste gas treatment systems, which helps improve system safety, protect personnel and equipment, and ensure compliance. How should fire dampers be selected in VOCs treatment systems? What should be noted?

Action temperature: Fire dampers are suitable for ventilation and air conditioning systems, but currently VOCs control systems can also be configured. Generally, the action temperature of fire dampers used in ventilation and air conditioning systems is 70 ℃, while the action temperature of fire dampers used in kitchen exhaust systems of public buildings is 150 ℃. The VOCs treatment field should be set according to the characteristics and hazardous properties of the incoming gas.

Valve function: When selecting a valve, attention should be paid to its function, such as whether it is normally open or closed, automatic closing and opening, manual closing and opening, manual reset, signal output, remote control, etc.

Linkage device: If the valve needs to be linked with the VOCs exhaust fan, a fire damper with dual micro switch device should be selected.

Material requirements: Generally speaking, the valve body blades should be made of steel plates with a thickness of 2-6mm. The valve body should be made of non combustible materials, and the rotating parts should be made of corrosion-resistant metal materials and rotate flexibly. The thickness of the valve casing shall not be less than 2mm. Easy to melt components should comply with the recognized standards of the fire department.

Classification of fire resistance ability: According to the classification of fire resistance ability, fire dampers can be divided into levels such as 1h, 2h, 3h, etc. The fire resistance function and fire resistance time of different levels of fire dampers also vary, depending on the specific application scenarios of VOCs treatment systems.

Structural classification: According to structural classification, fire dampers mainly include inclined fire dampers, upright fire dampers, mobile fire dampers, etc. Oblique fire dampers are suitable for indoor and outdoor fire hydrants or water supply pipelines in water systems; Vertical fire dampers are suitable for places where pipelines pass through partition walls, floors, or slabs; Mobile fire dampers are suitable for various fire protection requirements and can be flexibly moved according to changes in the usage site.

Safety risk identification: Inspect and optimize the anti backfire (fire) facilities of VOCs exhaust gas pipelines, especially for areas such as workshops, regions, and pipeline RTO connections. Experts should be organized to identify and demonstrate the safety risks of setting up check, fire, explosion and other safety devices. On the premise of ensuring safety, one-way check valves and fire dampers should be installed to prevent backfire (fire).

Operation and maintenance: In RTO systems, the setting of fire dampers should consider the convenience of operation and maintenance to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the RTO system.
